Work on the exterior of the hall. New cobbles to replace the old rubble and weeds.
As a part of the maintenance of the exterior steps and walls of the village hall, begun last year, our favourite local authority - BANES - has recently been working on a triangular piece of land immediately outside the cellar door as it belongs to them, not us. Responding to a request from the trustees to clarify who owned the land, an extremely service-minded road engineer has been doing his best to utilise the limited resources of our council to our benefit. Cobblestones have been found and are replacing the overgrown entrance to the cellar. Clearing the weeds and centuries old rubble they discovered an old well, possibly from the Tudor mansion which was demolished in the 18th century. For Health and Safety reasons it has, understandably been covered over again but not before members of the Kelston History Group took photographs and noted its exact position. Who knows, maybe one day it can be displayed for all to see ( but not fall into..)
Sunday 8th June from 10:00 - 16:00.
