I have been teaching for 37 years and hold a British Wheel of Yoga teaching diploma.
I have studied many kinds of yoga over the years as I have always been keen to practice, learn and explore yoga more.
From the outset I was interested in and studied yoga as a therapeutic practice and it’s uses in both physical and mental well being and this forms the basis of my own practice and teaching.
I combine my therapeutic knowledge with the Scaravelli style of yoga which I have been deeply involved for the last 20 years.
Scaravelli inspired yoga ; gentle but deep.
Suitable for all, mixed ability
This is a slow, considered practice based on examination, awareness and a spirit of enquiry.
My teaching of yoga includes;
Yoga postures, concentration and awareness techniques, breath awareness and practice, relaxation techniques.
I teach how to :
Practice yoga postures slowly and safely with modifications for individual needs and variation where appropriate.
Use yoga postures to help alleviate back pain and joint pain, general injuries, chronic ailments and stress related conditions.
Use yoga postures to understand the habitual postures and movements assumed in our everyday life and how to change them for the better if necessary.
Use yoga postures to build an awareness of the body and how it works in order to be able to function more comfortably with less wear and tear.
Develop concentration, balance and poise through the practice of postures, breathing specific techniques.
Practice breathing techniques, cultivate breath awareness, use breathing exercises for specific requirements ie stamina, relaxation, sleep.
How to relax both body and mind with specific practices.
I encourage observation, questioning and discussion in class in order to facilitate good understanding of the work so that students are well equipped to do their own practice.
